老莎's comment is very profound and I can't agree more. I think it is important to be open-minded and to understand the personality /character of a student. I believe in exploring the best quality from students instead of setting some unattainable goals as they will suffer eventually.
There are 2 techniques I am currently exploring in teaching. One is called Dalcroze Eurhythmics (using movement to teach musicality) and another one is called Sensory Integration technique (from the neuroscience). I have read some literature about children with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). Though I am not teaching students with speical needs, but this concept inspired me to strike for solutions and never give up (at least trying not to) on students. I can't stand when teachers just blame on students when the students can't perform a certain task.
When I have more time, I would love to write more about these 2 wonderful and exciting concepts.
