[ 本帖最后由 制作提琴 于 2008年6月5日 22:56 编辑 ] This first-rate example from the "long period" of Antonio Stradivari is on the market for the first time since 1954. The violins Stradivari made during the 1690s were slightly longer and narrower than in previous periods. This pattern change served the desire of the players of the day for a more powerful instrument. Stradivari was about fifty years old when he made this violin and the workmanship reflects his mature, individual style. "Irish, Burgundy, Maaskoff" derives its first name from three nineteenth century owners in Dublin, Ireland. It is traced first to a Mr. Dowell who was in the wine trade and acquired the violin in Spain during the early part of the century. From Dowell, the violin changed hands into those of an amateur named Mr. Sweetman, and again to a Dublin music director named Levey. After Levey, the violin made its way to London where W.E. Hill & Sons sold it first to a Thomas Baker in 1889 and then to a George Wedekind in 1909. The violin derives its second name "Burgundy" from the rich and beautiful red color of its varnish. The Maaskoff moniker comes from the next owner, Anton Maaskoff, a well-known concert violinist, who purchased the violin from the Hill firm in 1931. In 1954, the Rembert Wurlitzer firm sold the violin to an amateur violinist, doctor, and prominent collector. It was the centerpiece of his collection and upon his passing, was entrusted to Reuning & Son Violins for sale. Because the "Irish, Burgundy, Maaskoff" violin has been cherished by so few owners, it comes to us in remarkably fine condition. It boasts a powerful and complex sound that will complement the most demanding player. Today, one can hear similar violins in the hands of such renowned musicians as Ruggero Allifranchini, Mary Lou Speaker Churchill, Gil Shaham, Vladimir Spivakov, and Masuko Ushioda. We welcome your inquiry about "Irish, Burgundy, Maaskoff," as well as two more Stradivari violins we offer at this time.(我也看不懂,转来的^_^) It is said that when George Craske died, over 1000 instruments (in various states of completion) were remaining in his house. He was an itinerate maker who lived in complete seclusion for more than 20 years. He is also one of the most prolific makers in the history of the violin. Craske's work is spontaneous, bold, sure-handed and covered in a beautiful red brown varnish. We find Craske's instruments to be amongst the most undervalued violins of the English school. We have taken great pleasure in placing dozens of them in the hands of deserving students and professionals. This example, in perfect condition, is in the best category of his work and has a dark, full sound.
